The Inbetweeners First Day Of School Opening scene
The inbetweeners is a teen comedy which has become very successful having thousands of people have seen the T.V show and has gone on to have made two movies which were also both very successful in the box office.
Sound:
When Will is walking into the school yard there is ambient sound in the background of kids talking connoting that the school is just like any other stereotypical school and is no different really.
Right from the beginning there is continuous fast pace diegetic music which carries on into each scene, thus creating a sound bridge and connoting the idea that Wills life goes from being fast paced to slow very quickly/changes very quickly.
Editing :
Bringing onto flashbacks connoting the reason why he has moved schools because his parents have split up and maybe why he is having difficulty to fit in and is maybe being victimised as a result of this.
Cuts from the past to the future shows us what he is going to get into and helps establish some of the people he will meet along the way, connoting the idea that he will either make friends or lose them.
Cuts to different times gives an effect of what happened, what is going to happen and what he is enduring for now and whether Will will be able to cope with it enticing the audience to carry on watching.
Camera:
The panning and over the shoulder shot when Will walks through the gates helps establish the normal comprehensive school showing different stereotypical groups posing the question which group is Will going to fit into if any for that matter.
Meise-on-scene:
Lighting-Mainly natural to maintain the sense of a normal environment that is vital in everyday life further showing that teen comedy is a good example to apply in real life.
Props- Wills briefcase also is a beacon for him to be bullied as yet again he is standing out from the rest of the school and may get abused as a result of this
Typical conventions of a comedy action are; there is always a traditional hero or heroes which offer comical relief much like in this film and the film Bad Boys,Often feature weapons and gadgets etc and an over the top use of them, usually have a beginning narrative to explain who the characters are and how they got there, there is usually a best friend mechanic that help each other out throughout the movie and there is usually fast sounds throughout the action parts and if there is a funny part there will usually be background non diegetic music playing.
Camera-
It includes long shots ,close ups and handheld camera at points. The long shots help to show the setting and the scenery which will be prominent in the movie. The close ups are generally used when conversations are taking place and allows us to focus on what they are talking about. The handheld camera allows the audience to see and overview of events that are chaotic and represent the lifestyle of a teenager.
Batman The Dark Knight Trailer Analysis
This film is the sequel to Batman Begins by Christopher Nolan staring Christian Bale as Batman. In this movie Batman faces his hardest foe yet The Joker who will push Batman to his limits as The Joker does not care who he hurts in the process he just wants to "watch the world burn".
Mise En Scene
Mise En Scene plays a big part in the trailer especially costumes. Costumes suggest the characters instantly such as the batman suit and the jokers purple suit is unique to him. Lighting is low giving a dark and meaningful impression but also connotes a bat to relate back to the subject of the film.Make up is obvious to make the joker stand out from everyone else owever the set produces more of a connotation due to gotham city which was involved in batman begins. This all produces clear separation of the characters along with showing the joker as the main enemy.
Editing
The editing is purposely fast paced for most of the trailer however it does a lot of drops into short term slow pace to create tension and allow the viewer to get drawn into these moments more. These slow pace moments tend to be big parts of the plot for example when the joker says to kill 'the batman' and 'here's my card' or jokes to keep the viewer interested such as the psychotic boyfriends and the ending sequence between Alfred and Bruce.
Camera Angles And Movement
The beginning sequence shows a lot of varying establishing shots to give the sense of the location including a birds eye view shot. Also shows Batman jumping which suggests his importance as the camera tracks his movement as he jumps. Many of the camera shots throughout the trailer are medium or long shots to show the characters involved and then uses shot reverse shot a few times for the slower paced speech clips which tells the audience of whose involved in the conversation. a few important camera moments is when the Joker meets the damsel in distress in which the camera circles the two of hem to suggest tension and a situation unfolding. Another is an establishing shot of the tops of Gotham city however batman is silhouetted against the sky which has massive connotations of him watching over Gotham and being an angel type figure for them to look up to.
Sound
Sound plays a massive part in creating the tension for the trailer whilst drawing together all the elements. One of the key sound is speech which develops the Narrative of the film using the Joker, Batman and Harvey Dent. this voice over by the characters produces the tension between the Batman and the Joker whilst showing Harvey Dent is involved in between their rivalry. It also gives the viewers a good idea of the three main characters to help develop the Narrative. Music has a lot of bass to it and varies in speed and power whilst correlating with the pace of the editing such as slowing the tempo down when the editing becomes longer. Sound effects is difficult to pick up however it does play a more discrete part of the trailer
Jump Street Trailer Analysis
This movie is a sequel to 21 jump street and is about two undercover police officers who look to take down a drug business inside a college. They will go through ups and downs throughout the movie.
The film is a comedy action.
Mise-En-Scene-
The lighting is very bright and mostly shot in the sun or a bright room. The bright lighting could be used to represent that it is a happy film and a lot of fun will be involved.
The main props are alcohol, drugs and sunglasses.Alcohol and drugs links to the audience as they are mainly teenagers and they are stereotyped as this and that they do this a lot of the time. The sunglasses could also relate to the bright atmosphere around the film.Another prop used is a gun although the gun is a dangerous weapon the two main characters are seen to be quite laid back in their actions with the guns which could highlight their incompetence at being police officers.
The actors Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are reasonably young again highlighting the target audience of the movie.
The costumes are brightly coloured and this could relate to the bright atmosphere or relating to the audience of the film. The females shown have very little clothing on maybe prompting the male gender to watch the film.
Editing-
At the start there are quick jumps between the scenes these introduce new angles which helps to introduce the story line and genre of the film. And also goes with the pace of the music at the beginning.Anchoring is used throughout the trailer as the music starts off fast pace but then slows down as do the clips. The slides across the screen enable text to appear. The first set of text to appear there is a closing curtain transition. This helps the text to flow and link with the rest of the trailer.
Camera-
It includes long shots ,close ups and handheld camera at points. The long shots help to show the setting and the scenery which will be prominent in the movie. The close ups are generally used when conversations are taking place and allows us to focus on what they are talking about. The handheld camera allows the audience to see and overview of events that are chaotic and represent the lifestyle of a teenager.

Conclusion
These have given me some ideas as to how to do a good opening to a film and how to present the actors and producer names etc.

This graph shows that we should be
aiming to market our movie to the 10-18 age range because they are the more
prominent thriller watchers. This could be down to the fact that this age group
are still young so will find car chases and explosions more entertaining.
However it would not be wise to market thrillers to younger viewers depending
on the sub genres as they may not fully understand the underlying implications
of the thrillers.
We will be using conflict and
guns in our movie. This is because the research suggest this is what the
majority of people want to see and I feel that this will help the effectiveness
of the movie massively. However although the research clearly shows near death
experiences as a convention we will not be using this in our opening as we will
use it to set the scene. However if we did a full movie then we would use a
near death experience for the protagonist as it is crucial for this genre.
We shall be using suspenseful and
fast paced music. This is because it is crucial to our sub-genre. However we
will also include slow paced music to break up the suspenseful and the fast
paced music, for example fast paced will be used whilst in conflict and
suspenseful will be used when the protagonist is hiding from the antagonist as
well as this slow paced would be used in moments of sadness or mourning etc.
We shall be using smart, dark
clothing for the protagonist because this will give him a professional look
which is essential really to the Hit Man role. Interestingly this could also
help us identify what the antagonists will wear as the drug lord could wear
smart casual clothing and the person getting the package could also wear casual
or even chavy clothing.
Production Company Logo Research
The Warner Brothers logo is one of the most recognised logos in the world. It has been associated in the past with film franchises such as Harry Potter and Batman. They usually change their logo for the genre of the film for example if the film is quite dark i.e a thriller then the logo will be in low key lighting and will have a run down look.
The 20th Century Fox logo is another very recognisable logo and has been used in many big films these include Avatar which went on to make around $2.8 billion which is very impressive. The logo is also in 3D which makes it more impressive and the music used in it is a very key aspect in making the logo so recognisable.
The Universal logo is similar to 20th Century in the fact that the music is a very key component in making the logo so recognisable and popular with people. This company have also been associated with big films such as Fast and Furious and Despicable Me.It is also fitting that it is the earth as the background for the name Universal.
